The Winner, Sydney Piano Competition

Lovers of fine music won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to see and hear a rising star of the piano.
After an international competition and a gruelling five stage process, the winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition has been announced, and it won't be long before he performs in Rockhampton.
24 year old Avan Yu from Canada, was declared the winner of the prestigious competition at the Sydney Opera House on 21 July.
But the hard work has just begun, as he heads off on a Winner’s Recital tour which includes Rockhampton’s Pilbeam Theatre in August.
Avan Yu triumphed over 35 other competitors from all over the globe. The process began with auditions earlier this year and culminated in the finals last weekend.
The first prize includes a recording deals and international performance engagemnets. It also includes a tour of selected venues in Australia. In addition to the first prize, Avan Yu was awarded prizes for:
Best performance of a 19th or 20th century concerto
Best performance of a work by Beethoven
Best performance of a work by Ravel
Best performance of a chamber music work
